DESMOG: WORKERS AT FRACKED WELLS EXPOSED TO BENZENE (TALKING CLEANING FRAC TANKS)

“If I would have known the damage those tanks would do to me, I would never have cleaned them,” Jose Lara, a former industry worker, testified, according to Food and Water Watch’s report. “For six years, his job had been to climb into and clean wastewater tanks for natural gas drilling companies. Lara, now deceased, believed that he got pancreatic and liver cancer from his job,” Food and Water Watch wrote. “Despite the noxiousness of the wastewater, Lara was not supplied with any protective clothing or gear nor was he briefed on the toxins he would be exposed to on the job.”

WHY ARE OIL & GAS WORKERS MYSTERIOUSLY DYING ACROSS AMERICA? (TALKING VAPOUR RECOVERY)

“In July of 2012, the mother of 21-year old Dustin Bergsing filed a wrongful-death suit in Yellowstone County District Court. Bergsing died on January 7 of that year — his first child was born just six weeks prior. The cause of death was hydrocarbon poisoning. More specifically, Bergsing died from inhaling fatal amounts of petroleum vapors after gauging a crude oil tank on a Marathon Oil site in Mandaree, North Dakota. Here is what happened”: https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-04-22/why-are-oil-gas-workers-mysteriously-dying-across-america (by www.zerohedge.com)

FRACTRACKER: WELL WORKER SAFETY AND STATISTICS (2003-2012)

(I put this up here for comparison to future statistics.)

The population most at risk from accidents and incidents near unconventional drilling operations are the drillers and contractors within the industry. While that statement may seem quite obvious, let’s explore some of the numbers behind how often these workers are in harm’s way and why: https://www.fractracker.org/2014/05/worker-safety/
